We went hot air ballooning!!!

We celebrated our anniversary this weekend with something we've always wanted to do. We drove to Napa at 4:30 in the morning. Yes, we were up before the sun! The fog had rolled deep into the valle that morning, which makes it a bit dangerous to be at the mercy of the wind, when you can't see anything. Our balloon pilot drove us to the next valley over, so we rode over orchards instead of vines. Our pilot, Frank, was amazing, hilarious, and took us for the longest ride. Oh, and he managed to land us back on the ground without us all falling out of the basket.

We went about 900 feet up, and rode the winds east and eventually saw the Sacramento skyline through the fog. We were in flight for just over an hour. The ride was gorgeous and peaceful, except for the roaring over the burners every other minute.

After we landed, we were treated to a fabulous champagne brunch! Imagine, the pilots spend every morning like this...

I really wanted to entitle this "Blimey, Are those Balloons?" I was thinking it'd be the first thing Laura would say while stalking our blog. But, I realized we weren't British and neither Kristin nor I said this as we pulled up at 5:30 in the morning.

And Jean, we highly recommend the Napa General store for brunch, especially the cranberry scones!

It sounds like you two have had a wonderful weekend! I'm planning on going up in a hot air balloon next Feb. in New Mexico. Now I definitely can't wait.

Meghan - are you going to the festival in Albequerque? We might have to talk!

I don't know anything about a festival, but I will be in Albuquerque from Feb. 6-10ish for a conference.

KK, Dan and Meghan:
I've been to the Albuquerque Balloon Festiva which is held in October every year and went on a hot air balloon during the event. This is the BIGGEST hot air balloon festival in the USA (alot of international ballonists) it's fabulous!!! Regardless, if you can find a group that flies in Feb...I would encourage you to do it (don't get freaked out by all of the waivers you have to sign...ha ha) Enjoy!!! By the way, how are you?
I love you tons!!
